Reflexology
Reflexology is a holistic therapy that involves massage and pressure applied to the feet and hands. Specific 'reflex' points on the feet and hands (and also on the face and the ears) are like the buttons on a switchboard - they are mapped out to connect the channels of energy through the body, connecting the different systems. Using various techniques a reflexologist will search out signs of imbalance in the body - stimulating an underactive area and calming an over active one.
Reflexology is a way of activating the healing powers of the body and the deep relaxation that it brings allows suppressed conditions to come forth. Along with alleviating the effects of stress, reflexology can help relieve pain, kick start the immune system, promote healthier digestion, help normalise blood pressure, improve circulation and detoxification and help you sleep better. Often conditions such as migraine, insomnia and chronic fatigue syndrome (ME) that seem to have no cause can be helped as the body's systems are worked and rebalanced.Pregnant women find it particularly helpful for many associated conditions and in the run up to labour.
Reflexology is recognised as a well- established and effective treatment by doctors, mid-wives, consultants and other health care professionals. It has recently been receiving a great deal of press, for example, due to its success in helping seemingly infertile couples.
